LEMBAR, the gateway to the peninsula and the port for Bali, is 22km south of Mataram. Bangko- Bangko first acquired a reputation a few years ago as a prime surfing spot , but the inaccessibility of the place by road, and the fact that it has little else to offer (there's no snorkelling or coral here), means it has never really developed into a resort, although keen surfers charter boats from Bali,bringing all their food and equipment with them.
